On Monday the 4th of December I travelled with a group of students from 3rd, Transiton Year, 5th and 6th year to Munich in Germany on our language tour. We stayed for four nights in the Meininger Hostel in Munich city centre. On Tuesday we travelled by bus to the village of Schwangau. We took a walk to the famous Neuschwanstein Castle and arrived for a guided tour. We got the opportunity to experience the snowy landscape and take lots of nice photos. Later that day we visited BMW Welt and showrooms to witness the many fantastic vehicles on display. Our evening was spent at the Munich Xmas markets. We sampled many German specialities including Kinderpunsch, Currywurst and we purchased some gifts for our family and friends. We dined that night at the renowned Hard Rock Café. On Wednesday we headed across the border to Salzburg in Austria. We explored the Mozart city and enjoyed another visit to the Christkindl Market there. We also visited Berchtesgaden Salt Mines and had an exciting underground guided train ride through the mines. Our fourth day was spent visiting Dachau Memorial Centre where we learned about the concentration camp and had an extremely informative guided talk and tour of the memorial site. Later that day we visited the Galaxy Erding Waterpark for some relaxation and entertainment. We had lots of fun at the slides, wave pool, lazy river and in the outdoor pools with our friends. On Friday after a leisurely German breakfast we travelled to the airport for our flight back to Ireland. We really enjoyed our trip to Munich and got to put our language skills to good use. We experienced lots of sights and culture of both Germany and Austria. Thank you to all involved and especially our teachers Ms. McConville, Ms. Duggan, Ms. Whelan, Ms. McDonald and Ms. Murphy who accompanied us and took great care of us on tour. |
