Accelerated Reader is a goal based reading programme that was introduced to students in Coláiste Bríde in 2022. It caters to learners from all levels of the reading spectrum through differentiated goals and reading targets. These goals motivate students to read for pleasure which, in turn, improves reading fluency and comprehension. Progress is monitored by teachers through weekly reports and quiz scores and achievements are celebrated on a individualised basis.
Books from all genres are listed for Accelerated Reader and students’ can read books from the school library, the public library, digital and online titles, or those they have at home as well as books they have been gifted. Each title can be checked independently for it’s reading level, by using the Accelerated Reader Bookfinder link, so students have unlimited access to books.
Coláiste Bríde students are now reading more, and hopefully this engagement with reading will continue to grow.
