On Wednesday October 26th transition year students went to Whites Hotel in Wexford to watch dress rehearsals of the opera ‘The Bear’. We went to school for the first two classes before we got onto a bus to Wexford Town and went to the opera. It lasted 50 minutes. It was a very enjoyable experience and was many students’ first time attending an opera. We only got the opportunity to see one scene of the play as it was just a dress rehearsal. In this particular scene a woman is mourning the death of her husband, who died the previous year, when her husband’s debtor arrives demanding the money he is owed. They argue for a period of time before they realise their feelings and fall in love with each other, but they won’t admit it to themselves. After a period of time, the argument gets so heated that they threaten to duel with their pistols. However, when the time comes, they discover they cannot shoot one another, as they’ve fallen in love. After the opera we were allowed to stay in Wexford town for lunch before heading back home.
