Ty Fashion Show - Winners Report

4/2/2016

Judges’ Choice - Design of the Year 2016: Galanthus
Design Team; Áine Fortune, Ciara Moulton and Zara Byrne
We made our dress from over 300 milk filters cut and glued together to form our dress. We were inspired by Alexandar McQueen. It took 4 and half months to complete. We got the milk filters from a dairy farm which we washed twice. For the top we cut out two different sized flowers, stuck them together then stuck a button. For the bottom, we cut diamond and flower shapes to get it a lazer/see though look. The closer we got to the fashion show the more nervous we got.
When we were finally finished the dress we had to come up with a routine. We also produced the music ourselves. This lasted 90 seconds. Zara (the model) got her hair and makeup done by a fellow student for both shows. All 27 models performed their best at both shows. We were lucky everything went to plan and no one made a mistake.  At the night show, the result of the student and judges choice was made. All models gathered on stage behind the curtains in the “Rose of Tralee” style as they waited for the envelopes to be delivered. When the envelopes arrived the curtains opened and it was time to announce the winners. The winner of The Student Choice Award was “Banríon Faoi Bhláth” modelled by Chloe Wilson and designed by Chloe, Caoimhe Cullen and Lauren Furlong. The winner of The Judges’ Choice Award was “Galanthus” modelled by Zara Byrne and designed by Zara, Ciara Moulton and Áine Fortune. We couldn’t believe our ears!! It was so exciting yet hard to believe. There was so much competition and we were so surprised! We gathered around and cheered and hugged and then Ms. O’Sullivan gave us our prizes! We got photos taken and met our families. It was such a great night. Overall it was stressful but was a worthwhile experience!
The day after the fashion show we had a photo shoot. After an eventful night, we were all very tired but really enjoyed the experience of it all. We will wait anxiously for the result of the next round – Junk Kouture Regional Finals in the Helix. Fingers crossed we get through!!
