Fashion Show 2016 - Students' Choice Winners

5/2/2016

Design Team: Chloe Wilson, Lauren Furlong, Caoimhe Cullen.

On Wednesday the 20th January we had a full dress rehearsal at 9:30am. We were slightly panicked as we would have to be finished makeup and hair by that time and also we had to finish the middle part of our dress, we weren’t sure if we would have it done in time for the school fashion show but thank God it was done!
Everybody was flying around in the small space we had for 80 of us with shoes, makeup, bags and blankets all over the place. As the student fashion show started and the first few dresses went on-stage, we were nervous as the standard was extremely high. We didn’t think we had a chance. Backstage we had a team pep talk and went over dance moves but most of all reminded ourselves to enjoy this experience as it’s a once in a life time opportunity. As Chloe (model) performed on stage, there was a weight lifted off our shoulders that everything went smooth and nothing went wrong. We all went backstage and couldn’t believe it was all over, it had flew by. The show continued and finally the students had to vote for their favourite but we wouldn’t find out who won student choice until the family fashion show later that evening.
It was nice to relax for a bit because before we knew it we would all be running around like headless chickens again. This time there were judges which added to the pressure. As the show began at 7:00pm the pressure was on again. We had extra stress as our middle piece wouldn’t attach to our top but thanks to our teacher all problems were fixed.
Everybody went on again and performed amazingly which had us nervous. The judges went off to deliberate and took a while but not as long as we had been told. All the designers sat around the catwalk while all models were lined up on stage like ‘The Rose of Tralee’. As Ms. Duggan announced number 11 (which was our number) for student choice it took us a few seconds to realise it was us. Caoimhe and I both ran up on stage to Chloe, we were over the moon that all our hard work payed off.
We each got a trophy with ‘student’s choice award’ on it. Our group took a walk down the catwalk and then back up to find out judges choice. It felt amazing that we had won. Our dress was filled with over 4000 pieces of paper all quilled which took hours just do a handful. We thought we would never make enough to fill the dress. We never expected to win, it was a total shock and amazing too but we all said we never want to see paper or hot glue again!
Overall the experience was a once in a life time thing and we really enjoyed it and honestly wouldn’t change anything about it except the hot glue burns! Now we hope we get through to the next stage – the Regionals.
