On Friday the 11th of September, the new Transition Year group went to Gravity in Courtown. This is a high rope adventure course just outside Gorey. The zip wire, the aerial treking course, the climbing and abseiling wall all test your limits of self-confidence and skill.
There are two aerial treking high ropes courses; each obstacle is up to 15m tall. It includes traversing rope nets, rolling logs and bouldering walls but all the time you are safely harnessed. The zip wire is 150m long.
When we arrived, we split into two groups. The first group went straight to the aerial trekking course and zip wire. Group two went into the nearby forest with a map, a pencil and some paper where they had to orienteer their way to the finish while also collecting codes written on posts around the forest marked on the map.
After both groups finished we all had lunch together as a year group. When lunch ended both groups swapped so the first group went orienteering and the second group had a turn at the zip wire, the climbing and abseiling wall and the high ropes.
It was an opportunity for us all to get to know each other – and we did! We shouted support and helped each other on the high ropes. We also learned team skills while orienteering as we had to pull together to find our way home!
When we finished we all made our way home on the bus. Overall it was a good day, even if it was scary!
